In September we will begin a series of seminars about the changing city, co-organised by the research projects Smartour, Sustainlis and Hopes. The first will be on 8 September, at Voz do Operário in Lisbon, at 5pm, and will be dedicated to the discussion of urban transformations caused by tourism and real estate speculation. 

Entrance is free and all are welcome!




WEBINAR | Overtourism: an introduction to an evolving concept

Next Tuesday (October 27th) at 6:30 pm,  SMARTOUR (FCT PTDC/GES-URB/30551/2017) and the CEG TERRITUR  research group organized the conference “Overtourism: an introduction to an evolving concept”.


The conference will be held by Claudio Milano, Professor at Escola de Turismo Ostelea (Barcelona) and Universidade Autónoma de Barcelona. Milano is co-author of the book "Overtourism: Excesses, Discontents and Measures in Travel and Tourism" (CABI, 2019) and co-author of the "Research for TRAN Committee-Overtourism: impact and possible policy responses" for the European Parliament.

Next Tuesday (October 13th) at 6:30 pm, SMARTOUR (FCT PTDC / GES-URB / 30551/2017) and the CEG TERRITUR research group organized the conference "La potencia turística del Mediterráneo. Balearic Islands from critical geography ".

The conference will be held by Dr. Iván Murray, Professor at the Department of Geography of the University of les Illes Balears and author of the book Turismo y Capitalismo em Espanha (Alba Sud, 2015). Ivan Murray has a research experience of over 20 years of tourist development and impacts on the territory.

First seminar for a national research network on housing in Portugal

The first seminar for a national research network on housing in Portugal will take place on the 17th of july, at 4pm in IGOT. Representatives from five on-going research projects in Lisbon and Porto funded by FCT (SMARTOUR, FINHABIT, EXPERTS, SUSTAINLIS, HOPES) organized this seminar to enhance the debate on housing issues and to share knowlegde for a better housing future in Portugal.
